To register with the municipality in Lanzarote

• Gather Required Documents:
• Original and a copy of your passport.
• Residencia card/certificate.
• Proof of address (rental contract or escritura if you have purchased property).


• Visit the Local Town Hall (Ayuntamiento):
• Go to the town hall in your municipality within the first 6 months of your arrival.


• Request a Certificado de Empadronamiento:
• Ask for a Certificado de Empadronamiento for each person.
• The administrator will complete a form for you to sign, take the copies, and ask you to return in 10-14 days to collect the certificate.


• Collect the Certificate:
• Return to the town hall in person to collect your certificate as you will need to sign for it.
• There may be a small charge (1-2€) per certificate.


• Verification:
• Be aware that the police may call at your house during the application process to verify that you live at the stated address.
This certificate is used to prove your residency, register for reduced water rates, school places, buy a car, and obtain Spanish travel discounts.
